Membership: Maintain membership records, collect dues, process new membership applications, welcome new members
Hospitality: Help to provide refreshments, collect donations, and sell MRHS items at our speaker meetings
Communication: Maintain MailChimp email list, email members relevant notices
Website: Keep our website current
Historical research: Work on the various history projects the society undertakes. (We will be gearing up for projects involving America’s 250th birthday in 2026.)
Program committee: Help plan and secure speakers for the six lectures we sponsor each year, reserve the lecture hall, put out press releases and use social media to advertise the lectures, set up the hall for the lectures, provide thank you letters to speakers, plan and implement other activities such as walking tours and PVA open houses
Building and grounds committee: Oversee the maintenance of our grounds at 74 and 76 High St., including Portersville Academy and our archives building
Capital improvements: Our archives building is bursting at the seams and Portersville Academy needs to be improved in order to use it for community outreach. The archives building will be 40 years old in 2026 and we want to mark the occasion by raising funds to make it and Portersville viable for the next 50 years.
Education: Work on programs and activities to bring Mystic history to the community
Newsletter: Provide ideas and content for our newsletter, which is published five times a year.
Newsletter mailing: Print mailing labels, apply to newsletters, and mail at post office
Board of trustees: Serve as one of 12 people who plan the future of the society and look for ways to bring history to the people of Mystic
Finance Committee: Review expenditures and establish annual budget, determine areas and methods for fundraising
Curatorial Committee: Meet regularly to discuss issues relating to the care of our photograph and manuscript collections and work on long range plans for collections storage, preservation, research, and exhibits
